Malvern Wine Room

A room designed around the pleasure of wine.

This private wine room in Malvern, Melbourne, was created as a place to retreat, entertain and enjoy wine with family and friends.

Designed by Sarah Elshaug and built by Planned Homes, the space was recognised as a finalist in the 2024 KBDi Design Awards. Its brief was as much about living as it was about wine storage: a comfortable, intimate room that felt entirely at home within the broader residence.

At its heart is a EuroCave ShowCave wine cabinet, integrated into the dark cabinetry to place the collection firmly within the room. Designed to both protect and present wine, the ShowCave turns the bottles themselves into part of the interior. Integrated lighting and a reflective back panel create a warm amber glow, allowing the collection to take centre stage without overwhelming the space.

The surrounding details are equally considered. Moody black cabinetry, a marble bar and dedicated storage for glassware and accessories create a setting where everything needed to open, pour and enjoy a bottle is close at hand.

The result is more than a place to store wine. It is a room designed around the pleasure of the collection, from choosing the bottle to sharing it.

ShowCave Double Door

ShowCave is EuroCave’s flagship display cabinet – built to put the wine on show. Wall lighting, a reflective back panel, and Mains du Sommelier supports that flip between storage and presentation make it an impressive statement piece for any room. The ShowCave Double Door stores up to 180 bottles.
